Picked up early at our hotel in Miraflores and dropped off at the end of the day with plenty of great memories of birds and landscapes seen.Posted on Digby MunnsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Arriving pre-dawn in Lima with a day to fill before we could check into our hotel (unhelpfully located at the old/recently closed international airport) we contacted Wild Andes to see if they could help us with a day's birding close to the city. We were flying north to Chiclayo in the early hours of the following day, to join a 3+ week birding tour, and were keen to find a few species that this northern Peru tour would not see. Considering our birding wish-list and exchanging several emails with Alfredo, we eventually settled on Lomas de Lachay as a suitable place to go. Alejandro T and the driver arrived at the airport and collected us. We shared a great day in a wonderful place, saw some good birds and had an insightful catch-up on what had been happening in Peru since I was last in the country. Unfortunately, our key target (Cactus Canestero) was not around - but we got him at Sinsicap on our final day before leaving Peru!Posted on Jon SkinnerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an amazing time on our guided trip with Wild Andes. Alfredo was extremely easy to work with over email while planning. We were originally going to do two one-day trips from Lima but with just a week’s notice, we were able to switch to an overnight trip starting with Santa Eulalia Canyon and going up into and over the Andes. Our guide for the trip, Miguel, was amazing in every aspect. He was great at communicating the plan for the trip, setting expectations and being flexible. He was attentive to our needs and patient when we wanted to get out to look at something along the way. He is an extremely talented birder and familiar with all of the expected species. We also appreciated that when he wasn’t sure of a species, he was honest and said he’d be willing to review any pictures that we sent him later. His knowledge of the landscape was extensive and definitely made sure we hit almost every single target including ten endemics! When it came to accommodations and food, we felt totally taken care of and it was nice to share meals together for dinner. The driver, Juan, was also great - I’m so glad that we weren’t the ones driving on those narrow canyon roads. He was a careful and confident driver and superb about anticipating when we’d want to stop and making sure the car was just around the corner from where we were birding. Not to mention, he also helped spot some great birds for us! Both Juan and Miguel were great company and made the entire trip an amazing experience. Wouldn’t hesitate to go out with Wild Andes again, especially with Miguel leading and Juan driving. On a side-note, if you’re on the fence about doing the Santa Eulalia Canyon trip with the extension, we really recommend that you do it. You’ll save so much travel time going back and forth to Lima. Going up into the Andes and seeing the amazing landscape and equally amazing birds and wildlife was very worth it. Definitely get acetazolamide if you’re heading higher than the foothills! It was a last minute call to skip the day trips, but we’re so glad we changed our plans. Traveling with Wild Andes was a highlight of a very awesome trip to Peru.Posted on Paul SteventonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A great birding day in Lima with an excellent guide - highly recommend Alfredo FernandezPosted on Henk KrajenbrinkTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I did two 1-day tours with Wind Andes. The Pantanos de Villa & Pucusana tour - with an extra stop at Humedal de Chilca - was really enjoyable with some good coastal birds (e.g. Humboldt Pinguin, Surf Cinclodes, Wren-like Rushbird). We recorded 60+ species. On our next tour into St Eulalia valley, we managed to find a couple of good targets & endemics like Great Inca-finch & Black-necked Woodpecker. A little 'warning' though: it's quite a long travel for a day trip, getting out of and back into Lima, with not so much 'pure' birding time left before activity shuts down around noon. If you're mainly after the endemics, it's worth it, but if you want some extra & more relaxed birding time, consider spending the night in the area and have an early-morning start the day after.Posted on John MeragiasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. One of the best guiding experiences I have ever had! After a very successful first day of three that I had planned for one subject, we decided to change our itinerary at the last minute to include more beautiful species to the north. Alfredo organized the entire experience in just a few hours and accommodated everything perfectly, including even finding me a flash that I could rent. I highly recommend him to anyone visiting Peru that wants a guide with vast knowledge of the different ecosystems of the country and the different wildlife that inhabits them.Posted on Eva LewTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wonderful two 1-day birdwatching with Wild Andes. Booking was extremely easy with rapid response from Alfredo regarding information & trip suggestions/ planning. Use of PayPal to secure reservations from US very helpful. Alfredo kept in touch prior to the trip. First day of bird watching was near Lima… beginning with UFO “hotspot” of Chilco. Happy to report that our expert guide Miguel was able to identify all flying and non-flying bird “objects”. There were multiple bodies of fresh water next to the ocean where species after species of shore birds were seen. There were also small endemic species that were more elusive. We then went to Pucusana, a picturesque town with a bay with an island full of penguins, Incan terns, gulls, cormorants, & much more elusive smaller bird species that liked to hide under rocks. We went birdwatching from a 1-hr boat ride. Lunch was delicious, with plentiful helping of fresh seafood in one of the local restaurants by the bay. The day concluded at Patanos de Villa, a marshy area with small ponds where numerous duck & colorful species lurked in the reeds. Black vultures hovered over some of the grasslands. Again, Miguel was able to find colorful endemic species that were more shy than the black vultures! Next day started early at 5am to head out to Santa Eulalia Valley. Our driver Juan expertly maneuvered through windy narrow roads up to 10,000+ft elevation with frequent stops for birdwatching along the way. Miguel filled us in on many points of Peruvian culture and history. One of the first birds was a Pygmy owl who glared at us, disguised as a fruit hanging in the branches of a tree. Other small endemics followed including hummingbirds as well as not so small buzzard eagles. The driver made frequent stops where we walked short distances to spots where Miguel would play recordings of birdsong in a call & response. Late lunch was at a traditional Pachamama BBQ with huge portions of chicken, beef, & pork. The long but satisfying day ended back in our hotel in Lima. We were very happy with our experience with memory card full of photogenic birds, sea lions, & other creatures. I would HIGHLY recommend both trips for bird enthusiasts for bird watching and photography! I am looking forward to other birdwatching tours with Wild Andes team on future trips to Peru!Posted on Dolf BredenkampTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had the privilege of enjoying a day and a half in and around Lima with Wild Andes Tours recently. As a hobby wildlife photographer, I wanted a personalised experience, and I am grateful for the great care and patience that went into planning and executing the tours. Alfredo knew just where to go for the right opportunities with the birds of Lima and I can highly recommend Wild Andes! Thanks again to the team for a wonderful time.Posted on Carlos BozaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My birding adventure with Wild Andes Tours was an absolute delight from start to finish. We started very early in the morning to avoid crowds, and explored the stunning Pantanos de Villa Reserve in Lima, a RAMSAR site brimming with diverse bird species. From coastal lagoons adorned with Great Grebes and Many-colored Rush-Tyrants, to our boat ride around Pucusana's island, where Humboldt Penguins, Inca Terns, and other unique species stole the show, every moment was pure magic. The expertise of the Wild Andes team, their passion for birdlife, and the carefully planned itinerary made this tour an unforgettable journey.
