Overview

Central Peru Circuit

Central Peru holds one of the highest concentrations of endemic birds on the continent, yet sees a fraction of the traffic of Manu or the northern circuit. This multi-day route links the places we know best — Santa Eulalia Canyon, the Marcapomacocha cushion bogs and Lake Junín — then continues to the Satipo Road and the legendary elfin forest of Bosque Unchog.

Unchog's flagship needs no introduction to serious listers: the Golden-backed Mountain-Tanager, one of the most spectacular and range-restricted birds in the world, alongside Bay-vented Cotinga, Fire-throated Metaltail and Eye-ringed Thistletail. Add the Junín Grebe and Junín Rail on their only lake, the Diademed Sandpiper-Plover on the bogs, and the canyon's finches and hummingbirds, and the circuit can produce twenty-plus Peruvian endemics.

We're building the full itinerary now as the natural extension of our Santa Eulalia and Junín tours. Contact us to register interest or discuss a private departure.
