Overview

Lima Layover Birding

Lima's Jorge Chávez airport is one of the great birding secrets of international travel: some of the best wetland and coastal birding in Peru sits just minutes from the terminal. If you have a long layover — or an overnight stopover between the Amazon, Cusco and home — we'll turn that dead time into a morning or afternoon of birds.

We collect you directly from the airport (or your airport hotel), tailor the length to your connection — anything from a three-hour dash to a full day — and have you back at the terminal with comfortable margin before your flight. The Ventanilla wetlands are barely 20 minutes away; Pantanos de Villa, La Punta and the Callao coast add penguins, Inca Terns, flamingos, herons and shorebirds. A short outing regularly produces 40 species; a full layover day can top 80.

Tell us your flight times and we'll build the tour around them. Store your bags in the vehicle, keep your binoculars handy, and let a dead layover become the first — or last — great birding of your Peru trip.
